About
Brodie Bishop, Founder of SureSpec
I’m Brodie. I run the commercial side of construction businesses, so the people running the work don’t have to do it at 9pm after a full day on site.
Why SureSpec Exists
During my career I’ve always worked on the commercial side of specialist subcontracting: variations, payment claims, contracts, cost tracking and final accounts.
Over that time I kept seeing the same pattern. Good subbies, doing good work, getting caught out on the commercial side. Variations done on site that never got written up. Payment claims knocked back on a technicality. Final accounts that came in short, with no one quite sure why.
It’s rarely a problem with the work itself. It’s a time problem. The owner is running crews, chasing materials, pricing the next job and dealing with the main contractor, and the commercial work gets squeezed into nights and weekends, or doesn’t get done at all. Most subbies can’t justify a full-time commercial manager, and help charged by the hour means you only pick up the phone once something’s already gone wrong.
So I built SureSpec: an outsourced construction commercial department on a fixed monthly fee. You get someone who owns the commercial side of your business, knows your jobs, and is there to call early, before small problems turn into expensive ones.
I also work with small commercial builders, managing their subcontractors. I’ve done that plenty of work from the subbie side, so I know what’s behind the numbers.
How I Work
One fixed monthly fee. You know exactly what the commercial side costs each month, with no hourly meter running in the background. That means you can call about a small question or a half-formed worry without thinking twice about the bill, which is usually when a problem is cheapest to fix.
I own the outcome. The commercial function is my job, not a list of tasks you have to hand out and chase. I keep track of what’s due, what’s been claimed, what’s outstanding and what needs attention, so you don’t have to hold it all in your head.
I learn your business first. Before anything changes, I get to know your jobs, your contracts, your main contractors and how you currently run the numbers. Every business does things a bit differently, and the commercial side should fit how you work, not the other way around.
Early, not after the fact. Most commercial problems start small: a variation that wasn’t written up, a claim that’s missing a detail, costs drifting on a job. I’d rather pick these up while they’re still easy to sort than try to recover them at the end of the job.
Plain language. You get straight answers and a clear picture of where each job stands, not reports full of jargon. If something needs a decision from you, I’ll tell you what it is, what the options are and what I’d recommend.
